The new TOEFL iBT 2026 Reading section is approximately 30 minutes and the Writing section is approximately 23 minutes. The full test including Listening and Speaking takes around 2 hours total.
What is the Build a Sentence task in TOEFL 2026? +
Build a Sentence is the first writing task. You see scrambled words and must drag and drop them into the correct order. Sometimes one extra word is included that shouldn't be used. You get 1 point only for a perfectly correct sentence.
What is the Complete the Words task in TOEFL 2026? +
Complete the Words is the first reading task. You read an academic paragraph where 10 words have their second half hidden. You must type the missing letters. It tests academic vocabulary.
How is the TOEFL 2026 Reading section adaptive? +
The Reading section has a routing module followed by a second module. If you answer about 60% of routing questions correctly, you get the harder second module which allows for a higher score.
How long should my email be for the Write an Email task? +
Aim for 130–140 words. Make sure to cover all three required points in the prompt, use polite formal language, and organize your email into two clear paragraphs.
